Hello all. My Name is Pamela. I am 33 and live in Bristol,Va. I have a 14 year old son who I adore. :) I work from home and looove it! It's the best job. :D I am hoping this blog will grow and that one day I can look back and be proud of some of the things I have created. I learned how to knit when I was about 23. I haven't looked back! I make a lot of socks. I think there is a two-fold reason for that..
1) Socks are quick to knit!
2) Being a member of a sock club-this increases the sock stash!
I have sock yarn in just about every color imaginable. Still..alas, as with many other knitters..I feel like I can NEVER have enough yarn!
I learned some basic crochet about 2 years ago. I also managed to take up spinning as well. :) I spin on top-whorl hand spindles.
I dabble in all kinds of art though. You name it!
My mantra is "art is therapy."
I'm also a big fan of kawaii style. Simple, cute, little Japanese characters and faces painted onto just about anything! It makes me smile..:D
I'm a huge kid at heart, because of that, I have started to look to my own childhood for artistic influence. Along with my fascination for all things cute and Japanese..I recently started digging into my sculpture stuffs.
As much as I would adore being able to set up shop and have a kiln..that's not going to happen with my funds. lol. Sooo..until then, I play with sculpey! :)
I have a tendency to go on crafting binges. It's actually kind of embarrassing! I will really get into one of my hobbies..go out and be completely focused on a certain material or concept..and then when I get bored of it..it gets locked away in a storage container until that bug hits me again. I have more "WIPs" than I even care to count!
Currently the obsession is on the clay thing. So I started out by making charms..cute, little charms for necklaces, bracelets, earrings, ect. I have a ziploc bag filled with handmade charms of just about every variety you could think of. I promised my sister Patricia a bracelet filled with sugar skull charms. My sister Angela wants a peas in a pod necklace as well. I have most of the skulls done for the bracelet but I really want to fill up the charms so I am still making a few more skulls. :)
I have also started making miniatures. These are all done in 1/12th scale. Most of them are little food items..I made an entire cane of ham. lol. From it so far I made a cut ham roast, and a few slices. I have found a ton of inspiration online at etsy and several other miniature artists..there are sooo many talented people out there!
My friend Beth has convinced me to rent out a table at our local flea market. We are going to set up a table I guess I should say. lol. Beth wants to make and sell hemp jewlery. I feel kinda bad though because I have a ton of stuff that I'm pretty much ready to sell and she doesn't really have the money for supplies or time to really make anything. I wish I could afford to go out and buy her a bunch of supplies but I don't have that kinda money. So I have kinda resolved with myself that even if she can't get her stuff together in time..I still think I need to get a table and set up a shop. I guess I have always felt kinda insecure about my art. I never quite feel like things are "professional" looking enough, or perfect enough. Well, I figure, I look at some art and think there is no way in hell I would pay for it..and yet, it's for sale, or sold, or famous, ect. You get the point. So even if my stuff looks like crap, it's at least worth trying to sell!
I am always on the lookout for new crap I can get into..new hobbies, new places to go, new friends, ect.
Life in Bristol is VERY boring. It used to be a little more exciting when I had a regular job. Working from home FOR SURE has more benefits than drawbacks but it gets lonely..and in some cases..annoying. lol. I really have my heart set on traveling a lot. Traveling means you need money..so I am trying to save up so I can go on a cruise or vacation somewhere away from here! Now don't get it twisted..there are some AMAZING views around here..the mountains are breathtaking! One of my favorite things to do is rent a cabin for a few days in Gatlinburg and relax! Plus, nature is the BEST muse.
I'm also going to set up an Etsy shop..I have yet to get one going...guess I'm just soo nervous about putting myself out there for critique. I need to get a new pre-paid credit card so I can do all that. I don't even use a bank! I know how weird that is but when you live paycheck to paycheck..there really isn't a need. Once business is really up and running then I am going to set up an account just for business. :) I think if my parents where a little more supportive of my art I would be more gung ho. As it is, I kinda have to hide it from them. I know, weird...I'm 33. I shouldn't feel like I need to hide anything but living in my parents house makes things far more difficult than you can imagine. So for now I keep all my clay in a tackle box and bake it when it's late and my uncle isn't awake to find something to complain about.
Well, I have about 2 more hours of work left and then I have a day off! :D I am working on getting my sleep schedule back on track. I have been sick since New Year's..I spent New Year's Eve night in the ER and haven't really completely recovered since..I lost about 30 pounds thanks to having no appetite and puking up just about everything I did manage to eat. I am slowly recovering but since I was tired non-stop I slept all kinds of weird hours and now I am paying the price. So..I have no clue what I will do tomorrow but I have a distinct feeling like it won't be much..I'm broke. So more than likely, it's a prefect time to do some crafting! Hopefully I will figure out how to post photos on here and what not. Give me time and I will show ya! :) Okay peeps, see ya later!
